Terms of Service
Last updated: 2026-06-04
Welcome to PollyReads (the “app”). PollyReads is a web app for children to practice reading English aloud, run by an independent solo developer as a non-commercial educational aid, with infrastructure hosted by cloud providers located outside mainland China. By accessing and using the app, you accept these terms.
1. Service Description
The app lets you: upload PDF books and audio (or generate picture books with AI) → AI text recognition, sentence segmentation, and timestamp alignment → sentence-level narration, word-level highlight, tap-to-look-up dictionary, automatic read-along scoring, screen recording, and book sharing. The app is designed for personal, family, and in-classroom educational use.
2. Who May Use It
- The app is currently in an invite-only beta, open only to invited users.
- Registered users must be adults aged 18 or older — parents, teachers, or guardians.
- Children are supervised users accompanied by a guardian, who must supervise throughout and bear supervisory responsibility.
- We do not accept independent registration by anyone under 18, nor do we offer the app directly to children.
3. Registration and Accounts
- The app uses passwordless email one-time-passcode (OTP) login.
- You are responsible for the security of your email; actions taken through your account are deemed your own.
4. User Content and Copyright
- You represent and warrant that any material you upload or import (PDFs, audio, images, etc.) is lawfully owned by you, used with the copyright holder’s explicit authorization, or falls within fair use / educational exemptions where you are located.
- The app is for personal / family / in-classroom educational use only and may not be publicly distributed or commercially redistributed.
- You bear full responsibility for the copyright legality of your uploaded content.
- We do not proactively review user content, but reserve the right to remove content and terminate offending accounts upon a reasonable complaint.
5. Sharing Feature
- You may share books you created with specific others (e.g., a teacher sharing with a class’s parents, or users exchanging
.prbookfiles). - The sharer bears copyright responsibility for shared or imported content. Sharing is also subject to Section 4 — personal / classroom use only, no public distribution.
- We do not proactively review shared content, operate no public library, and provide no content recommendations.
- We will respond to reasonable copyright complaints about shared content within 7 business days (see Section 12).
6. AI-Generated Content Disclaimer
- Sentence segmentation, translation, image generation, and read-along scoring are AI-generated and may contain errors or inaccuracies.
- Please review before use in important or formal contexts.
- We make no express or implied warranty as to the accuracy, suitability, or compliance of AI results.
7. Payments and Credits
- The manual book upload feature is always free.
- High-cost features such as AI-generated illustrations and AI narration may consume credits.
- Specific rules for credits and subscription plans are governed by the purchase page. Before paid features launch, related AI features may be offered free or with gift credits.
8. Refund Policy
Refund rules for paid subscriptions and credits are set out in the separate Refund Policy.
9. Microphone Recordings
- Read-along recordings: read-along scoring uses the microphone to capture spoken audio, used only for instant scoring. Recordings are never written to any database or persistent storage and are destroyed immediately after recognition; they are not used for training and not shared.
- Book re-recording audio: you may re-record a book’s narration to replace the original. This audio is saved to cloud object storage as a book asset for later playback; it is kept with that book and deleted when the book is deleted.
See the Privacy Policy.
10. Screen Recordings
Videos from screen/camera recording are stored only in your local browser; we offer no cloud upload. You may download or share them via other tools — if a video contains others’ copyrighted material, you bear the corresponding responsibility.
11. Prohibited Conduct
You may not use the app for illegal activity, infringement of others’ intellectual property or privacy, uploading malicious content, abusing the APIs, automated scraping, or anything that interferes with normal operation.
12. Copyright Complaint Channel
If you are a copyright holder or authorized agent and believe content on the app infringes your rights, email support@pollyreads.comwith: the work’s name and proof of ownership, a specific description of the allegedly infringing content, your contact information, and a good-faith statement. We commit to responding to valid complaints within 7 business days and taking necessary action. Repeat infringers’ accounts will be banned.
13. Service Availability
The app is provided “as is.” We strive for availability but do not guarantee 100% uptime, nor that all files will be processed perfectly. The app is at an early stage; features and UI may change or pause at any time.
14. Changes and Termination
We may update features, adjust the UI, or terminate the service. We will try to give advance notice of material changes in a prominent place, but bear no liability for resulting losses.
15. Governing Law
For disputes arising from these terms, the parties should first seek resolution through good-faith negotiation; failing that, the matter may be submitted to a court or arbitration body with jurisdiction. You are responsible for assessing the legality of using the app where you are located.
